San Mateo reports child influenza death same week that CDC cuts immunization recommendations
A child in San Mateo County died of influenza this week, only days after the CDC announced a new reduced list of recommended vaccinations.
Under the new guidelines, the CDC recommends all children be vaccinated against 11 diseases, a decrease from the 17 immunizations previously recommended.
Some Iowa physicians are concerned that the federal government is reducing the number of broadly recommended vaccines for children, from 17 vaccines to 11.
As part of the new schedule, HHS will no longer broadly recommend influenza, COVID-19, rotavirus, and other previously recommended immunizations. It now recommends 11 vaccines for all children, down from previously recommending vaccinations to protect against 18 different diseases in 2024.
New Jersey's top health official said the state will not change its childhood vaccination schedule, despite federal rollback.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reduced the number of vaccines it recommends for all children. The state health department said this week that it would continue to follow guidance from national medical organizations.
The Illinois Department of Public Health announced Tuesday that its recommendations for childhood vaccines will not be affected by a change in federal guidelines.
